Description

Our Canvas range of unfinished wood flooring is ideal for homeowners who want to create a distinctive and personalised style. Unlike our Kaleido range of prefinished wood coverings, which can be stained, brush-finished, or coated with lacquer, unfinished flooring allows greater customisation and flexibility to match the end user’s expectations and unique design needs. It also allows the customers to see the natural grain pattern and grading of the wood before the sanding and finishing process of the veneer.

Photos for our Canvas range of products are not available by intent, since we believe the pictures don’t always accurately represent the general characteristics of the wood due to the limitation of cameras, changes in natural/artificial lighting and the relative inconsistencies of various displays on mobile devices or computer monitors. We strive to make our colours as accurate as possible, but images are always intended as a reference only and should not be regarded as the actual product. Unlike our Kaleido range of prefinished products, unfinished flooring is intended to be professionally coated and finished at a further stage, therefore photos of the unfinished boards cannot predict nor represent the final product.

We provide grading information for all our boards from our experienced veneer grader to ensure the product’s undertone and characteristic matches our customers’ expectations. For our unfinished G12 Canvas range of flooring, grading is an important element and should be checked upon before the finishing work. Generally speaking, for a higher-grade board, you can expect a cleaner veneer with fewer to no knots and fillers, and vice versa. It should be noted that grading information serves not as a quality reference but only as a character reference. The structure and finishing quality remain consistent throughout our products, and in most scenarios, a lower grading board will not affect the undertone of the flooring as a whole. Compare to planks, herringbone boards rarely get any large dead knots due to the size of the tree it is sourced from, therefore grading information is mostly a reference on the degree of colour variations. For further grading details, please check our grading table.

The added ‘D’ after our ABC grade stands for ‘Delightful.’ With bigger knots and higher sapwood content present on the board, ABCD grade certainly gives an unspoiled and enchanting feel of the timber to its user. Some dead knots may come with filler which adds another degree of visual contrast to the surrounding timber, making it a popular choice among contemporary design schemes.

Why are we not offering hand samples for our canvas range of products? We noticed that a small 12mm long sample piece does not accurately represent the laid and completed flooring in a house, and furthermore, it may misstate and lead to a false expectation of our products as grading characteristics on the board vary in areas. On a single board, certain corners may show clear colour variations and knots while the remaining areas of the same board may appear as clean and consistent in patterns. However, if you wish to acquire a structure reference of our boards by looking at our samples, we are more than happy to help you with this. Please refer to this piece for plank and this piece for herringbone sample arrangement.

Herringbone is a timeless and elegant choice for centuries. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Rome, where it was commonly used in the construction of public buildings and private residences. This flooring style was named after the herring fish because it resembles the natural array of skeletons of this species. Therefore, the flooring showcases a unique pattern which is created by laying rectangular planks of wood in a zigzag form, resulting in a sophisticated, balanced, and eye-catching design, adding visual interest and dimension to the interior space. From traditional to modern, it is a solid choice that will never go out of style.

Choosing the right flooring to display from the hand sample is a crucial decision to make for your showroom.
